Olivia and Noriko participated in Hyakuninisshu Karuta Tournament, which took place on Nov.5-6 in Kyoto as a part of The 26th National Cultural Festival.
The day before the tournament, we visited Arashiyama(嵐山) district of Kyoto, where Hyakuninisshu was compiled by “Fujiwara no Teika(藤原定家)”.
This is “Jojakko-ji(常寂光寺)”, in which Fujiwara no Teika had his villa.
This is a monument which has one of the Hyakuninisshu poen engraved on it. One hundred of these monuments are scattered throughout Arashiyama district.
And, here’s some videos and photos from the tournament. We lost all games, as other players were all so good, actually best of Japan. However, we did our best, and it was great to meet players from all over the world. We sure wish to do this again next year!
